Mandibular Resection Prosthesis

The Mandibular Resection Prosthesis is made by a Maxillofacial Prosthodontist.  This prosthesis is made after a patient has had resection/reconstruction surgery due to a tumor of the oral cavity.  The patient will be missing part of his lower jaw along with teeth.  Due to his surgery, speech articulation and swallowing are dramatically impaired.  The patient is unable to masticate because of the muscle imbalances ans wound closures techniques required surgery.  This prosthesis is sometimes supported by dental implants.  This prosthesis will restore chewing function and provide support for the lip and cheek.
